Financial aid and funding options to help cover costs
There are a variety of financial aid resources that may be included in your financial aid award, or that you can apply for.
Depending on your financial need, your aid offer will include gift aid (scholarships and grants) that does not need to be repaid. To help cover any remaining costs, you may also be eligible for additional financing options.
Current students can explore aid for studying abroad, emergency expenses, becoming a resident assistant, or studying at Northwestern over the summer term.
Aid Included in Your Offer Letter
Federal and State Grants
Need-based grant aid from the US government or the State of Illinois does not need to be repaid.
Loans
We'll provide information about your federal student loan eligibility in your offer letter, but additional application materials will be required before any loans are applied to your student account.
Federal Work-Study
Information on the need-based employment program and how students qualify.
Additional Aid Based on Your Circumstances
Parent and Private Student Loans
Some families may choose to use private student loans or parent loans. Additional application materials are needed to receive these loans.
Undergraduate Emergency Aid
Current Evanston Undergraduate aid recipients who have encountered unexpected expenses may be eligible to receive emergency aid.
