Supervisor Responsibilities

The Work-Study office, in coordination with Northwestern Payroll, must follow strict regulations when administering the FWS Program. Failing to follow the rules of Federal Work-Study program may not only result in loss of participation for your department, but also for the university as a whole.

Per federal regulation, all work-study students must be supervised by a permanent staff or faculty member, not another student of the department or organization.

When agreeing to be a Work-Study Supervisor, you are not only agreeing to oversee, be present on a regular basis, and provide regular and consistent guidance and feedback to your student employee, but also will be responsible for signing all forms and approving timecards by stated deadlines.
