Materials Science and Engineering: Administrative Aide

DEPARTMENT: Materials Science and Engineering

Available Winter 2020

The Materials Science and Engineering Department is searching for two work-study students to assist with the development of Open Educational Resources for the department’s undergraduate core curriculum. Work-study students would observe lectures and work with instructors to help author textbooks/course notes to be used to replace expensive textbooks in future course offerings.

Work-study students will learn about co-authoring instructional texts, project management, technical writing, graphic design in publishing, and software version control. Students will learn how to design and typeset documents using LyX/LaTeX, construct figures using InkScape, and collaboratively author on texts using Git/GitHub.

Students will be expected to work 10hr/week. Apart from lecture attendance, hours are flexible.

Must be an NU undergraduate student with a Federal Work-Study allotment for the 2019-20 academic year.

No specific skills are needed for this project, but work-study students should have good organizational and note-taking skills, be free to attend all lectures of their designated courses in the fall quarter, and be self-motivated.

PAY RATE: $14.25/hr
