City of Evanston: Data and Civic Technology Aide

Available Winter 2020. Information Technology Division

The person in this position will gain knowledge in emerging digital technologies in a flexible environment that will involve hands-on experience appropriate to the skill level and experience of the worker.

Job Functions:

  • Assist with managing the website, including helping lead staff trainings, writing website instructions, assisting staff with web issues, and ensuring pages are up to date. 
  • Analyze and synthesize data sets, including datasets on the City's website portal, dataset suggestions. 
  • Research products and best practices and analyze potential applications for use at the City.
  • Assist with management of web form development.
  • Assist with IT project planning including Municipal ID cards, Digital Divide, and Apricot
  • Self motivated, can work independently, thorough in their assignments
  • Willingness to learn City organization and strategic role of IT

Flexible during operating hours, M-F between (8:30 AM - 5:00 PM)


Must be an NU undergraduate student with a Federal Work-Study allotment for the 2019-20 academic year. 

Upperclassmen preferred. Classroom or real world experience with Microsoft and Google products. The person in this position must also be dependable, work independently with direction, and motivated to complete assigned tasks as effectively as possible.
